How Did We Get Here? … And What’s Next!

How we got here:

As surprised as Micah may look in this picture, this has been about a 2 and a half year journey so far. Well, longer really, if you count the VERY beginning…

When I (Mackenzie) was younger, I always loved the idea of adoption! I always wanted a ton of siblings and my parents always told me they were done having kids – so I wanted them to adopt. Needless to say, that didn’t happen… So, as Micah and I started talking more about having kids someday, we talked about loving the idea of adopting as a way of growing our family.

Fast forward to around June of 2017, we started praying and asking God how and when we could start a family… we were so confident that it was time to move forward, but as more time went by, we realized pregnancy wasn’t the plan the Lord had for bringing us our first baby.

Since June of 2017, we had seen/heard things from Gladney (and adoption in general) pop up – other couples adopting through Gladney, random information cards in the mail, adoption brought up in general conversation, other families telling us their adoption stories, etc. We mostly ignored them until about January of 2019. In January, we stopped pursuing what we had held on to for so long and we started researching adoption. By March, we were fully committed to pursuing adoption through Gladney and had officially started our application in May!

What’s next:

Our application is officially done! Now, we have to do our home study/interview process and then we will officially be in the waiting stages of getting matched with a birth mother.

There have been a few questions on how soon we will bring a baby home… but, we have not been matched yet. This could be and probably will be a long road ahead of us.

We also had a few questions about why we announced now. One reason is: we have had lots of questions about when we are starting a family and we thought now would be a good time to let everyone know! Another reason is: we feel like we have been keeping a secret, and we couldn’t wait to share with everyone all the joy that this adoption is bringing us!

If you are feeling led to join along side us in this journey, be on the lookout for our fundraising opportunities. Right now, the best way you can help us is by praying for us – prayers for peace, guidance and wisdom as we start our family!

Questions?

Feel free to message either Micah or I!

We hope this answers some questions that you may have and gives you a better look into what the past couple of years have brought us! Thank you for joining us in this journey and being there to support us!

Home Study: Approved!

Last week, we got the call that our home study was approved! The response from our families has been: Yay!! … Wait, what comes next?

First, we were assigned a case worker that will work closely with us until our adoption is finalized. Next, we are working with someone to create a profile that will be distributed to potential birth mothers. Finally, this means that our biggest sum of money is due.

So many have asked how they can donate, and we are so grateful for everybody’s generosity so far! If you are feeling led to donate, you can follow this link to our fundraising page: Broadstreet Family Adoption – AdoptTogether

Thank you all for keeping up with our journey and for supporting us so far. We look forward to all that this adoption will bring in the future!

Domestic Infant Adoption

Many people have asked what age the child we are adopting will be… So we thought we’d answer!

We are taking the Domestic Infant Adoption route through Gladney. This means that after our home study is approved, we will make a video and have a booklet made that highlights who we are as a couple – for example: our hobbies, beliefs, story, etc. After the booklet and video have been made, Gladney will send it to a birth mother making an adoption plan for her baby. If she thinks we would be a good fit, we will meet and see if it is something we all feel confident about. Once we’ve both made the decision to move forward, we will gladly await the day we get to bring the baby home.

Currently, we are waiting to get our home study scheduled. After that, we hear it’s mostly a waiting game. We ask that you would pray for patience during that time and guidance as we meet with perspective birth mothers.

We will keep you updated as the home study goes through and continue our journey! Thank you for all the support and encouraging words! It means more than you know.

Love,

The Broadstreets
